Beef Bulgogi Recipe
- Thinly Sliced Beef
- ¼ cup Light Soy Sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- ½ Grated Small Asian Pear
- 3 Garlic cloves, minced
- 2 Leek or Green Onion, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
- 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon gochujang, Korean red pepper paste
- 1 teaspoon honey
1- Before beef slicing put the beef into the freezer for 20-25 minutes then it will be nicely thin sliced. You can reduce the garlic a little if you do not like it. Koreans love garlic, so mince it finely.
2- You can slice the leek the easiest way by just using the tip of the knife; it won’t need to be cut all the way down and will be minced automatically. It’s used for a greenish color. If you don’t have leek, you can substitute green onion for it or green onion for the leek. Put this aside and sprinkle on bulgogi at last.
3- Now after slicing the onion or leek use the fruit Asian pear you will think why I’m using the fruit? It will tenderize the meat in a concise time without marinating for long.
4- Add 2 tbsp of Soy Sauce and then a little bit of brown sugar about 1 teaspoon, if you don’t like the sweet flavor of bulgogi you can reduce it more.
5- Add 1 teaspoon of garlic and leek and add, and grate the pear and add into the sauce, pear is also sweet so you can add sugar in less quantity.
6- Add some black pepper in it, and roasted sesame seeds now mixed everything and give it a toss your sauce is ready now. Now pour this sauce over the meat and mix them very well marinate the bulgogi overnight for the best taste.
7- Now cook the bulgogi on medium heat drizzle the vegetable oil in a pan start frying onion and then put all meat into the pan and cook on medium high heat same as steak, don’t touch or flip too often just leave for a while because it’s thinly sliced.
8- When meat will cook then sprinkle leek or green onion on the top. Then add toasted sesame on top for a nutty flavor.
9- Koreans love to eat with ssam and to eat ssam you need ssamjang. For ssamjang, you need soybean paste (doenjang), a little bit of gochujang, a Korean red pepper taste, and this clear syrup is honey. Put some honey and some leek in it if you like a leek. And use ssamjang just a little bit if you put like one tablespoon it’s going to be very salty, use in less quantity and then wrap it. If you don’t like it spicy then just use Korean soybean paste and for flavor put a little bit of sesame oil.
You can enjoy beef bulgogi with a bowl of freshly steamed rice with garnishing, or you can serve it with a fried egg.
